In the Sundanese (West Javanese) language Gunung Geulis means “Beautiful Mountain”. Some 500 meter above sea-level, this majestic mountain golf resort offers 2 18-holes courses of which the oldest is the West Course (1992). Watched by its name giver and standing on the ever impressive opening hole, one has a bird’s eye view on the valley from which Thomson, Wolveridge &Perret carved out this boulder- and rock-rich layout.
From tee box 1 – most likely one of Asia’s most impressive opening holes you’ve ever seen – your tee shot plunges a solid 60 to 80 meters onto a fairly narrow fairway that is dotted with 3 intimidating bunkers to the right. Mind the OB area on the left. Club selection is important here. This opening hole will surely determine the player’s attitude on the remainder of this impressive course. The par 5 holes #6, #9 and #12 are long and amongst the most difficult holes on the course.
The front nine of the East Course is situated in the lower part of the terrain and is called the Valley Course. The back nine is projected in the hilly part of the terrain and is therefore called the Hills Course. In comparison to the West Course, the East course plays seemingly more difficult. It is shorter too. As it is situated in a rather majestic landscape, it offers golfers an enjoyable day out on the course. The air is crisp and clean.
The opening hole is nearly as impressive as the one of the West Course as it gives golfers a view on the hinterland of the green city of Bogor. From hole #2 until hole #8 as well as the finishing holes on the back nine, the course course opens up a view on the adjacent Rainbow Hills course. The Gunung Geulis cottages are a perfect option for weekend stay or a short golf break.
